Meet Mac+Lola

We have two furry friends that we love very much. They are Mac and Lola, two little girls that love to get in to trouble. Lola is feisty and Mac is sweet, they make quite the pair.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

At a show recently I saw the CUTEST handmade gift tags. These add just right touch for any gift this holiday season. Add a vintage-y look to them by using old postcards, sheet music or photographs. Here are a few of my favorite:

Holiday Love

So with the holidays right around the corner it's only natural that I start obsessing over vintage-y holiday decor. I stumble across the coolest DIY idea for a holiday wreath. It's so easy anyone can do it...and pretty cheap too! You need lots of different sizes of simple round ornaments, a hot glue gun and a wire coat hanger. I am going to post a link to the blog where I found it but here's the jist:
Use a dab of hot glue to attach the top of the ornaments to the ornament so it won't fall off. Fashion your wire coat hanger in to a wreath shape and randomly string on your ball ornaments. How simple and chic is this! Take a look and find the directions at this link: http://www.eddieross.com/eddie_ross/2008/12/no-wire-hangers-well-maybe-just-one.html

And of course take a look at these pics:

It's been a few...

It's been a few since we've blogged and we are sorry about that...but we have been SO busy! Just to fill you in a little, BIRDS not only retails to you the customer but is also represented in the wholesale market. So we have been focusing on both lately and well we are so excited about the new things on the horizon! We have several retail markets coming up where we will be selling BIRDS pieces as well as pieces by Lenora Dame...If you haven't heard of Lenora Dame we know you would recognize her work. Let's put it this way, if you have shopped the accessory section at Anthropologie you have seen some of her handy work! We hope you will become as obsessed as we are because we brought back several beautiful pieces from market this weekend. Here are just a few of her pieces that you can expect at our markets and on the website in the coming weeks (just in time for Christmas shopping!)

We also scouted out some awesome jewelry designers that we can't wait to feature on the site in the future! In the meantime looks for us at Handworks in Jackson, MS and The Holiday Bazaar in Starkville, MS soon. Peace. Love.

Interview with Arco Avenue

Have you heard about Arco Avenue? It's a fantastic shoe and accessories boutique that opened TODAY in Ridgeland at Colony Crossing (next to Summerhouse). BOAW Vintage had the opportunity to sit down with the owner/buyer Katie Miller and get an exclusive interview, check it out!

Laura: You obviously have an interest in fashion...what inspired you to take a leap and open your own store?

Katie: I had a hard time finding a place to shop for shoes in Jackson. I didn't want to spend $300 on every pair of shoes I had, but I didn't want to buy from a huge chain and have the same pair of shoes as a million other women in the country either. The opportunity of getting the perfect retail space came available, and I knew exactly what I was going to do with it... A SHOE BOUTIQUE!

Laura: When it came to decorating your store, what was your inspiration?

Katie: We have mainly a black and white color scheme, and the look is Parisian mixed with natural elements. We have beautiful chandeliers and statement furniture, but it's mixed in with materials like burlap, twine, and seagrass.

Laura: Who/What are your fashion icons?

Katie: I usually go by one rule when it comes to fashion... If I like it, I'm going to wear it whether it's "in style" or not. Using magazines for your fashion guide only goes so far. You've got to figure out what you like, and own it! As far as icons go, Katharine Hepburn is a great one. You can take anything she wore, put it on today, and look amazing. The same goes for Jackie O.

Laura: What brands is your store going to carry?

Katie: Arco Avenue will have several brands and a wide price range. We'll carry Nine West, Adrienne Vittadini, Michael Antonio, DV by Dolce Vita, Kenneth Cole, Indigo by Clarks, and Frye just to name a few. For accessories, we'll have Melie Bianco and Vince Camuto handbags, Betmar hats, Spun by Subtle Luxury and de*nada scarves, Fluxus and Dex outerwear, and Pomp and Plumage hair accessories. We'll have awesome stocking stuffers for Christmas like foot scrubs and bath bombs, butter LONDON nail polish, and leather gloves.

Laura: Why did your decide to focus mainly on shoes?

Katie: There was not a place to shop for shoes here in the metro area. The market is here, and I wanted to fill the gap.

Laura: Are your targeting a specific group or will your products appeal to all ages of women?

Katie: Our shoes and accessories will appeal to all ages. Junior High to 95, there is something here for you!

Laura: What are your fashion picks for fall?

Katie: My fall favorites are Frye boots (of course), satchel bags, and extra long scarves. I could go on and on and on, but I'll be short and sweet for time's sake. You'll just have to come in the store and see!

BOAW Vintage is so excited about this new boutique...I mean Frye boots, scarves and jewelry what more could we want!? Definitely go check it out!!
